OUR
PHILOSOPHY

When Cesare and Ana 1995 decided to come back to the farm and to the rice fields inherited from grandfather Cesare, they had in mind a very clear goal: to convert the once traditional rice cultivation into a model of regenerative agriculture.

Since 1995, our philosophy for sustainability has guided our decisions and efforts, by starting a path based on best agricultural practices and natural choices. Today, at our farmstead Cascina San Maiolo, we produce certified rice in compliance with the guidelines for integrated farming. We combine ancient practices, such as green manuring and crop rotation, with the latest precision technologies, thus ensuring soil health and the quality of our rice.

Our approach to rice production is rooted on harmony, which is concretely performed by the planting and maintenance of permanent woods of oaks, walnuts, hornbeams, service trees, hawthorns, and other native species. Moreover, in order to increase biodiversity, we cultivate small flower meadows in marginal areas, which provide nectar for pollinating insects and shelter for small wildlife.

Within the diversified ecosystem of our rice fields you can observe, especially throughout springtime, a rich birdlife like herons, lapwings, black-winged stilts, sandpipers and bee-eaters.

On summer evenings, the song of the frogs is accompanied by the glowing lights of fireflies, offering a natural wonder of extraordinary beauty.
